Web Development (Front-End Developer)

Web Development is vast and there are so many aspects to it, which we have spoken of in blogs in the past, but for this blog I want to speak on what "Front-End" is and what it takes to be a front-end developer.

According to an article by Coursera, "front-end developers create websites and applications using web applications, such as HTML, CSS, and Javascript that allow users to access the internet with the site or the app. When you visit a website, the design elements you see were created by a front-end developer." Pretty much everything you see in front of the computer is what a front end developer designs. They also create an UI, which is called a User Interface. A user interface is the point of contact between humans and computers. Any technology you interact with as a user is part of the user interface. For example, screens, sounds, overall style, and responsiveness are all elements of UI. There are so many skills needed in order to be a great front end developer, and an article by connectingdotsinfotech breaks it all down in this picture below.

Those are some hard skills needed in order to be great at front-end development, ranging from HTML/CSS, testing/debugging, responsive design, css preprocessing, etc. With these skills you can have a successful career as a front-end developer and in terms of soft skills as long as you are creative, great listener, pay attention to detail, are a great team player, you can learn how to maximise your potential as a front-end developer. According to many articles, in the US and Canada you can earn up to six figures and even more by being a front-end developer. There is a lot of job flexibility, remote work, and it's extremely challenging, but rewarding. Like the saying goes, if it were easy everyone would do it.
